India Has An International Museum of Toilets That Will Steal Your Breath Away!

Museum of Toilets

India has always managed to pull off something unique in all walks of life. And when it comes to museums, our country has made sure to not lag behind the rest of the world at all. Sulabh International Museum of Toilets, is a museum in New Delhi, India that has exhibits and pictures of toilets dating back as far as 2500 BC.

Divided into three sections, Ancient, medieval and modern- Sulabh Museum has an account of all kinds of toilets from around the world from the 3rd millennium B.C. till date.

It also has information on sanitation laws in different periods, toilet etiquettes. And most amusingly, it has a collection of poems dedicated to toilets and its use!

Beautifully painted and decorated toilets are something to watch out for. But the most fascinating part is that the Museum has its own detailed account on the evolution of toilets. For example, how toilet pans came into existence over a period of time!

Oh, and by the way, this museum of toilets also has a rare record of the flush pod that was made for Queen Elizabeth I by her courtier, Sir John Harrington.

The list of toilets put up for exhibition or their photographs is inexhaustible (mostly).

But what is important to note here is that India as a country that is known for its poor sanitation habits houses a museum that extensively exhibits flush pods, commodes, modern toilets and so on.

Perhaps, that is the motive of Dr Bindeshwar Pathak, whose brainchild is this vast museum.

Sulabh International Museum of Toilets is an amusing and interesting place to visit. But it also tries to propagate safe and hygienic sanitation for one and all.

It is excellent concept that aims at creating a better world. Indeed, India is a unique country and the museum… it is even more unique!
